Outsmart scammers: The smart way to secure your business communication
As a small business owner, you're the backbone of your operation. The thought of your accounts being compromised is likely a major concern. Unfortunately, cyber threats aren't just aimed at your customers; they can target you directly.
Just recently, our very own owner, Marksy, experienced this firsthand. He received a suspicious email that appeared to be sent from his own email address, urgently prompting him to "fix his mailbox" by clicking a provided link.
This is a classic example of email spoofing, and it highlights how even those who are tech-savvy can be targeted.
This incident underscores a critical vulnerability for small business owners: often, the same public-facing email address used for communication is also used to log in to various online accounts – from banking and website hosting to social media and software services.
If this primary email address is compromised, the potential damage is immense!
The smart move? Isolate your login email entirely. It should be a closely guarded secret, never shared publicly or used for any communication!
Conceal the email address you use for logging in by creating a professional email. All you require is a domain name and the capability to forward it to your inbox! (Optional)
Typically, obtaining a custom business email (you@yourbusiness.com) through services like Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace comes with a cost. However, by creating a free Business Hub account, you can send and receive emails at no charge!

Create a separate email for logging in
To truly secure your online presence, consider a two-pronged email strategy:
The vault (login email): This email address is strictly for logging into your critical business accounts – banking, website hosting, software services, etc. It should never be used for communication of any kind and should not be predictable.
The front door (public-facing email): This is the email address you share with the world – on your website, social media, and marketing materials (e.g., info@yourbusiness.com, sales@yourcompany.com).
Why this separation is crucial!
- Limits the attack surface: By keeping your login email private and distinct, you significantly reduce the chances of it being targeted or compromised through public channels.
- Adds layers of security: Even if your public-facing email is compromised, your login credentials remain secure. An attacker would need to know and compromise a completely separate email address.
- Reduces the risk of social engineering: Scammers often leverage publicly known email addresses to craft convincing phishing attacks. By keeping your login email secret, you make it much harder for them to impersonate you or trick you into revealing sensitive information related to your accounts.

Business hub: your secure system for communication
Now, let's talk about how Business Hub provides a secure and streamlined way to manage this email strategy and your broader online communication:
Centralised inbox: Instead of juggling multiple email inboxes, Business Hub allows you to forward emails from your public-facing domain into a unified inbox, where you can also manage your Facebook and Instagram messages – all in one place, for free. This makes managing your public communication efficient without exposing your private login email.
Secure in-app communication: This is where we take security to the next level. All sensitive communication with our team happens exclusively within your Business Hub web application. This creates an encrypted and controlled environment, far safer than traditional email exchanges which can be intercepted or spoofed. Think of it as a direct, secure line to us.

To take full advantage of this secure communication flow, you'll need your own domain name with email forwarding capabilities. Through
Business Hub, you can order a .com domain for just $24 per year
(we're a licensed GoDaddy domain reseller).
Your security is our priority. By utilising separate email addresses (one strictly for login, another for public communication), communicating sensitive information solely within your Business Hub account, always logging in through our website, and benefiting from our enhanced privacy measures, you're creating a multi-layered defence against evolving cyber threats.
